When Olivia fetches Richard Steig's tape, she rewinds it just before playing. If you reverse and slow down the audio, you get the following:Approximate transcript:

"Pupils?"
minor fix. standard check for pupil dilation, but seems as though the guy can't make out the pupils for some reason.
Just an aside the humming sound in the background is the same sound as on the MD home page and case 0006.
Why does it sound like George Clooney from ER?
That's exactly what I thought mandy.
George Clooney from E.R.
I think it's a sound clip from ER. could be because someone who works on the show worked on ER
That clip is from an early season (possible season 1/2) episode of ER.. the first voice is George Clooney's character Dr. Ross, the second younger sounding voice is Noah Wyle's character Dr. Carter. Perhaps a sound editor or some other crew member did work on ER?
The beginning...the [way?] would be a reference to airway. "No tracheal deviation" is something that one would be concerned with in a trauma- if the trachea, or windpipe, is deviated to one side instead of midline that's the sign of a pretty major trauma, a collapsed lung perhaps. Non-round pupils can be the sign of a major head trauma. I thought it sounded like a conversation between George Clooney and Noah Wyle on ER- pupils is definitely referring to the pupils of the eye.
Love the "ER" reference being an real-lif ER nurse myself!!
Some connections after reading some responses and watching ep. 2:
Walter has commented thus far about Peter's health: May have hypertension, eyes are green rather than blue (low percentage of happening), Walter looks at Peter's pupils in ep. 1 and under bottom eyelids and responds positively.
We know something is different about Peter because of Walter's comment about his health.
Now that I've thought about all that, and seen this new episode all about the clones, perhaps this audio may have something more to do with the plot than I thought? (The mention of the pupils).
Although we have obviously caught where the audio originally came from, maybe what JJ wants us to connect is that Steig had something to do with the cloning program, perhaps? Richard Steig did work in the Weapons Research lab at MD. Maybe his brother isn't his twin, but a clone...
I'm sorry. We really should get another tape. I mean, they're not expensive...
